  ON-SCREEN INFORMATION

  The following information is displayed on-screen:

  • Points: Displayed in the top right corner. Represents the points for the current word.</l1i2i1i
  • Completion Percentage: Indicates the percentage of words studied in the dictionary.</l1i

  HOW POINTS ARE CALCULATED

  1 point is awarded for a correct answer, and 2 points are deducted for an incorrect one. No points are awarded when viewing the word card.

  The first three points are earned when learning a word, which can be accumulated immediately. Afterward, the word goes into review mode, and points are not awarded until it's time for review.

  The fourth point is given on review after one day. The fifth point is given on review after three days.

  In total, a word can be considered learned by day five if you have scored all 5 points.

  HOW IT WORKS

  The program presents you with a word in Russian and a sentence containing that word. You must provide the English translation based on the context given.

  If you answer correctly, the program will praise you. If you make a mistake, it will provide the correct answer and show you the word card. In any case, you will be shown the English version of the sentence.

  Different forms of words are learned and tracked separately. For instance, "I" and "me," "see" and "saw" are counted individually.

  You can view the word card by selecting the corresponding menu item. The word learning process begins with the program randomly selecting 15 words from its dictionary to display them.

  Once a word moves to the "reviewable" group, the next word is pulled from the dictionary. Review occurs after one and two days, calculated from the time of your previous answer.

  If you answer all reviews correctly, the word moves to the "learned" group and will no longer be offered for review. Viewing the card means no points are awarded.

  DICTIONARY

  The program's dictionary currently contains around 1500 of the most commonly used English words, including those used in "Polyglot." Irregular verbs are presented in both their first and second forms, with points counted independently per form. The dictionary's words are arranged in order of study.
