The application "National Highway Information" provides real-time images, traffic conditions, speed inquiries, and voice announcements related to Taiwan's highways. Upon opening the app with location services enabled, users can view a real-time traffic map centered around their current location. The map is no longer limited to a minimized view but offers a zoomable interface for a comprehensive understanding of highway conditions.

Current coverage includes various national highways, expressways (such as Route 6x, Route 7x, Route 8x), and the Su-ao to Fenggang segment of Route 9 (including improvements on the Suhua, Hualien-Taitung, and South Link roads).

Main Features:

• Instant Access: The app automatically displays a traffic map based on the user's location, offering genuine real-time highway conditions.
• Map Customization: Utilizes Mapbox technology with options for "white base map" and "black base map."
• Zoom Functionality: Users can zoom in to examine traffic congestion at nearby interchanges. The zoom level is maintained upon reopening the app.
• Nearby Interchange Listings: The homepage presents nearby national highways and expressways based on the user's coordinates for easy access.
• Speed Information: Provides speed data between interchanges on various national highways.
• Police Radio Broadcast: Automatically plays local police radio based on location settings, with options to switch to a nationwide broadcast.
• Surveillance Footage: Offers live CCTV images from interchanges along national highways.
• Power-Saving Location: Location services refresh every five minutes after initial use to conserve battery while updating the map center based on coordinates.
• Road Signage: Displays signs for national highways and expressways on the map (excluding signs for Routes 1 and 3) and allows toggling of traffic information from police broadcasts.
• Speed Alerts: Features a mode that announces both road information and speed checks. If exceeding speed limits, users are alerted in red text along with sound notifications when surpassed thresholds (110%, 105%, or 100%), which can be disabled if desired.
• Additional Announcements: Users can opt for announcements regarding upcoming interchanges and average speeds of approaching segments.
• Interchange Points: Depicted by dashed circles on the map, tapping these allows users to identify interchange names to avoid confusion with Route 1 segments.
• Voice Announcements: Provides continuous information about nearby electronic boards, speed cameras, rest service areas, and live traffic updates from police broadcasts. Supports background announcements compatible with other navigation apps like Google Maps.

Voice Announcement Considerations:

• Enabling voice announcements changes location tracking from five minutes to one minute for accuracy at the cost of increased battery consumption.
• The same repetitive content will not be announced in quick succession.
• To avoid confusion with Route 1, announcements will not include information about the "Sihu Elevated" interchange.
• If the app detects no travel on highways or expressways within fifteen minutes, it will stop voice announcements to save battery.
• If voice volume is low compared to other sounds, users can adjust settings under Language & Input > Text-to-speech output > Google Text-to-speech Engine settings to enhance volume.

Main data sources include:

• The Ministry of Transportation's National Highway Administration’s traffic database since 1968
• The Directorate General of Highways’ information from roadside equipment
• The National Police Agency’s real-time traffic information
