Tafsir Ibn Kathir: An Overview
Tafsir Ibn Kathir is recognized as one of the most comprehensive and profound commentaries on the Noble Quran. This tafsir offers interpretations based on both the Quran itself and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), supplemented by insights from the Salaf Saliheen. Such foundations contribute to its esteemed status among scholars and students seeking a deeper understanding of the Quran.

About the Author
Ibn Kathir, formally known as Imad Ad-Deen Isma'il Ibn `Umar Ibn Katheer Al-Basri Ad-Dimashqi, was born around 700 A.H. After his father’s passing, he moved to Damascus at a young age, where he studied under notable scholars. His respect for Ibn Taimiyah profoundly influenced his scholarly endeavors, particularly concerning matters of jurisprudence.

Ibn Kathir garnered widespread acclaim for his remarkable level of scholarship across several fields, including Quranic exegesis, Hadith study, and history. His contributions were recognized by scholars who described him as a leading figure in exegesis. He meticulously documented and categorized knowledge, earning esteem for his teachings and fatwas throughout the region. His dedication to authentic Hadiths later distinguished him among his peers.

The later years of his life saw Ibn Kathir lose his eyesight shortly before his death in 774 A.H., after which he was laid to rest alongside his mentor. Among his many works, Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah (The Beginning and the End) remains one of his most celebrated contributions, as does his interpretation of parts of Sahih Bukhari.
