Leo Tolstoy is one of the most widely known Russian writers and thinkers, revered as one of the greatest writers in the world. He was a participant in the defense of Sevastopol, an enlightener, publicist, and religious thinker whose authoritative opinions led to the emergence of a new religious-moral movement - Tolstoyanism. He was a Corresponding Member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences (1873) and an Honorary Academician in the field of fine literature.

In the distant year of 1859, L.N. Tolstoy started creating a village school in Yasnaya Polyana. For the children's education, a textbook was needed - this became the "ABC Book," which Lev Nikolaevich wrote himself.

Aesop crafted his fables in prose. However, Tolstoy aimed to be as close as possible to the ideal. He felt it necessary to introduce students to the real Aesop, with ancient fables so that students could experience the enduring power of words and thoughts.

Fairy tale - a genre of literary creation:

A literary fairy tale is an epic genre: a fictional work closely related to folk tales but, unlike them, belonging to a specific author, not circulated orally before publication and not having variants. A literary fairy tale either imitates folkloric style (a literary fairy tale written in a folkloric poetic style) or creates a didactic work based on non-folkloric plots. Folklore fairy tales historically precede literary ones.
