The Brothers Grimm are German linguists and researchers of German folk culture. They collected folklore and published several collections under the name "Grimm's Fairy Tales," which became very popular. Along with Karl Lachmann and Georg Friedrich Beneke, they are considered the fathers and founders of German philology and German studies.

"Children's and Household Tales" is a collection of fairy tales gathered in German lands and literary processed by the brothers Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. Originally published in 1812, it is now known as the "Grimm's Fairy Tales."

In 1826, V. A. Zhukovsky translated two of the Grimm Brothers' tales into Russian from French for the magazine "Children's Companion" ("Sweet Roland and Clear Cress" and "Briar Rose"). The first complete Russian translation was completed in 1863-1864. Folklorist V. Ya. Propp testified to the presence of such Grimm Brothers' tales as "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Bremen Town Musicians" (which were not previously typical of Russian folk tales) exclusively in oral tradition in Russian villages. The influence of Grimm Brothers' tales can also be seen in three tales by A. S. Pushkin: "The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights," "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish," and "The Bridegroom."
