The Patient Handbook app provides access to a comprehensive database featuring over 3,000 articles on various medical conditions, alongside more than 2,000 illustrations, which include drawings, X-rays, photographs, animations, and videos. Users have the capability to save their favorite articles and share content from the Patient Handbook via email and Facebook.

Owned by Danish Regions and the five regional authorities, the Patient Handbook serves as an electronic reference tool and is integrated within the national public health portal, www.sundhed.dk. It is primarily designed for users without a healthcare background, while those with professional medical training may find greater benefit in utilizing the Physician's Handbook app.

The daily operations of the Patient Handbook are managed by a secretariat located within the Danish Medical Association. Access to the Patient Handbook is complimentary for both healthcare professionals and the general public. Importantly, the service is not funded by advertisements and maintains independence from commercial interests.

The app has been developed by Trifork Medical, a subsidiary of Trifork A/S.
