معارف القرآن is an Urdu exegesis of the Quran by Mufti Muhammad Shafi Usmani. In this work, the author has not provided an independent translation; instead, he has chosen to utilize the translation by Maulana Mahmood Hasan. According to him, translation is a delicate matter more so than interpretation, and since the translations of the predecessors are available, there is no urgent need for a new one. The exegesis begins with a focus on issues of vocabulary and then briefly presents an interpretation of the Quran under the section titled 'Summary of Interpretation'.

The author aimed to ensure that those who are not familiar with complex academic reforms could understand the Holy Quran according to their capacity. Therefore, while writing this exegesis, care was taken to avoid technical terms, intricate discussions, and unfamiliar words. The explanation relies heavily on the interpretations of the righteous predecessors while avoiding unsupported statements. Consequently, references are provided throughout from the explanatory remarks of the Companions and their successors as well as from classical exegeses.

Additionally, within the context of subtle insights and teachings, contributions from renowned later commentators have been included, particularly those that enhance the greatness and love for Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him), motivating righteous deeds. The translations by Hakim al-Ummah Ashraf Ali Thanwi and Sheikh al-Hind are relied upon for translating the text of the Quran. Before presenting the complete interpretation and explanation, a summary of interpretation is provided, derived from Ashraf Ali Thanwi’s exegesis 'Bayaan al-Quran'. This summary can be viewed as brief notes on the verses that may suffice for those pressed for time looking to enhance their understanding of the Quran.

Lastly, related rulings and issues pertaining to the verses are documented. In doing so, it has been ensured that only those rulings and issues directly relevant to the words of the Quran are included. A significant portion of these rulings and issues is sourced from respected texts such as Tafsir Qurtubi, Ahkam al-Quran by Al-Jassas, Ahkam al-Quran by Ibn Arabi, Ahmadiyah Tafsir, Muheet Tafsir, Ruah al-Ma'ani, Ruh al-Bayan, and Bayaan al-Quran, among others, all of which are duly referenced. However, it also addresses some contemporary issues in light of Quran and Hadith principles as well as those established by esteemed jurists while adhering to how earlier scholars prioritized their respective era's sects and prevailing issues.
