Malai Mashhour is a prominent comedic figure recognized across Kurdistan, Turkey, Iran, the Balkans, and Arab countries. Various ethnic communities honor this personality with names such as "Kurd Malai Mashhour," "Fars Malai Nasreddin," and "Arab Juha." In 1967, Kurdish historian Hussein Hazni Mukrani published a book dedicated to Malai Mashhour.

The full name of Malai Mashhour is Sheikh Nasreddin Khodja. He was born in 1208 in the town of Akşehir, near Konya in Turkey. This well-known figure is celebrated for his astute wisdom and capacity for delivering messages through humor. In 1284, he embarked on a journey that left a significant mark on folklore.

Many tales have been crafted around his character, wherein he often finds himself riding an unusual steed. One popular story illustrates this when he is asked about his unconventional horse. He responds, "I did not mount the horse backward; rather, it is my horse that moves backward beneath me."
