The Orthodox Bible consists of 77 books from the Old and New Testaments. All of them are included in this application in what is called the Synodal Translation, which was carried out in the 19th century and authorized by the Holy Synod for home reading. This translation of the Bible, made from the original ancient texts, has high authority and is widely used not only in the Orthodox Church but also in other Christian denominations where preaching is conducted in Russian.

The books of the Old Testament were written in ancient Hebrew over thousands of years before the birth of Jesus Christ, and they are considered sacred scripture not only for Christians but also for Jews and Muslims.

The books of the New Testament, written in ancient Greek in the first decades after the Resurrection of Christ, are of greatest importance to Christianity. They consist of four Gospels that describe the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, the books of Acts and the Epistles of the holy apostles, and the Book of Revelation by John the Theologian.
