The Bible (from the Greek βίβλια, plural of βίβλιον, transl. bíblion, "scroll" or "book") is the religious text of sacred value for Christianity, in which the religious interpretation of the reason for man's existence on Earth from a Jewish perspective is narrated by humans. It is considered by the Church as divinely inspired, being an doctrinal document originally compiled by the Catholic Church for guidance on its doctrines.

According to tradition accepted by most Christians, the Bible was written by 40 authors between 1445 and 450 BC (Old Testament books) and 45 and 90 AD (New Testament books), totaling a period of almost 1600 years.

Most historians believe that the dates of the first writings considered sacred are much more recent; for example, while Christian tradition places Moses as the author of the first five books of the Bible (Pentateuch), many scholars accept that they were first compiled only after the Babylonian exile, from texts dated between the tenth and fourth centuries BC.

Many scholars also assert that it was written by dozens of people from different regions and nations.
