The recitation of Durood Sharif serves as a profound expression of love for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In fact, it is explicitly encouraged by Allah, the Almighty. The Holy Quran states: “Indeed, Allah Himself and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessings upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.” (Quran: Surah Al-Ahzab, Ayah 56)

Beyond the Quran, the importance and detailed aspects of reciting Durood Sharif are also discussed in Hadith literature. Reciting Durood brings immense rewards, mercy, and blessings. It is obligatory to recite Durood Sharif upon hearing or mentioning the name of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Failing to do so may result in accountability for neglect.

The virtues of Durood Sharif are remarkable, with no end to its merit. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The person who is most deserving to be my companion on the Day of Judgment is the one who sends the most blessings upon me.” (Tirmidhi). Among all forms of Durood, the Durood-e-Ibrahim holds the highest status.
