The practice of Salah, or prayer, is one of the five pillars of Islam and is mandated for all Muslims. As previously noted, the fundamental obligation of an individual is the belief in the existence and oneness of Allah, as well as the acceptance of the prophethood of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Among the rituals of believers, Salah holds paramount significance.

Unlike other commandments of Islam that were conveyed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, through the angel Gabriel, this directive for prayer was bestowed directly upon him during his night journey (Isra and Mi'raj). This event occurred approximately eighteen months prior to the Prophet's migration from Mecca to Medina (Hijrah).

Salah serves as a form of worship ('ibadah) that purifies the soul, illuminates the heart, and elevates one’s stature before Allah. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, stated: "Salah is the pillar of religion. Whoever neglects Salah destroys their faith." This emphasizes that Salah plays a crucial role in soul purification. By performing Salah, a Muslim bolsters their faith, safeguards themselves against sins, and seeks spiritual cleansing.

On one occasion, the Prophet Muhammad posed a question to his companions: "Would dirt remain on your body if you bathed five times in the river flowing in front of your house?" They replied: "O Messenger of Allah, no dirt would remain." To this, he remarked: "The five daily prayers are similar to this: through prayer, Allah expunges sins."
