The Holy Scripture, also known as the Bible, encompasses a collection of texts that constitute the sacred writings of Christianity and Judaism. The term itself, derived from the Greek word τά βιβιλία, meaning "the books," reflects its nature as a compilation of religious and historical documents believed to be divinely inspired.

The concept of "Covenant" is central to understanding the Bible. The Old Testament details the creation of the world, humanity's fall into sin, and God's covenant with the people of Israel. The Catholic and Orthodox canons include 77 books, while Protestant versions contain 66.

In Judaism, only the Old Testament (Tanakh) is recognized as sacred scripture.
