This app is the official application of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that provides three functions for overseas Japanese residents to electronically apply for passports: "capturing passport face and reading IC chip," "capturing a personal photo," and "capturing a self-signed photo." As this app operates in conjunction with the browser-based Overseas Passport Electronic Application System, it will not function if launched independently. To use this app, registration is required with the online Foreign Residence Declaration. Please launch the app from the "Overseas Passport Electronic Application System." If the app is launched from the home screen of an iPhone, an error message will be displayed and it will not function.
The submission of the Residence Declaration is required for individuals who have resided for three months or more, with an address or place of residence established in a foreign country. However, even for Japanese residents who have resided for less than three months, registration is necessary to utilize the electronic application. How to Use:
- Log in to the Online Foreign Residence Declaration using a PC or iPhone browser, access the "Overseas Passport Electronic Application System."
- Click on "Scan QR Code and Launch App" in the "Identity Verification, Facial Photo and Signature Registration" menu.
- Scan the QR code displayed on the PC browser using your iPhone, or tap the link on the iPhone browser to launch the app.
- After capturing passport face and reading IC chip, personal photo, and self-signed photo, close the app and continue entering application details in the browser.
* Photos captured with this app are encrypted and transmitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' passport issuance system.
* Photos captured with this app are saved in the camera library of the iPhone.
* This app is free to use, but users are responsible for any communication expenses (data charges, etc.).
