The adage "You live a new life for every new language you speak" encapsulates the transformative power of language learning.

Inspired by the well-known program "Polyglot" aired on the Kultura channel and after mastering a verb usage table, I sought a tool that would facilitate, as Dmitry Petrov described, the "stringing of beads on a thread." My goal was to expand my vocabulary, enhance sentence construction skills, and improve my comprehension of spoken English. Unlike existing applications on the market, I desired something straightforward, user-friendly, yet effective, containing a solid base of built-in educational material along with opportunities for extensive customization. I recognized the necessity of learning new words strictly within context, visualizing specific situations to create vivid mental imagery.

This led to the development of my application, "English Plus."

The app comprises nine sections:

• Theory - a brief instruction guide for using the app along with small lessons to assist beginners in learning English.
• Learning Words - a section dedicated to memorizing English vocabulary.
• Spelling Practice - a section for practicing the spelling of English words.
• Constructing Phrases - a section aimed at training users in sentence structure.
• Listening Comprehension - a section focused on understanding spoken English words and phrases in context.
• Dictation - a section for practicing spelling English sentences and comprehending spoken text.
• Pronunciation - a section dedicated to training pronunciation of English words.
• Tests - a segment for assessing knowledge through various tasks.
• Games - an enjoyable way to reinforce knowledge and acquire new skills.

The learning process is structured around tasks where users earn gold stars. Collecting three stars signifies that a vocabulary item has been mastered. Additionally, English words and phrases are pronounced by the app's built-in speech synthesizer, adjustable in your device settings. Transcriptions are available in three formats: British, American, and Russian.

A notable feature is that users can create their own dictionaries and tests tailored to their specific interests or leverage additional dictionaries from the developer’s public database.

I believe that "English Plus" offers something intriguing for everyone. Beginners can learn the most commonly used thousand words (starting with Russian transcription), while those with basic knowledge can deepen their understanding through phrasal verbs, sentence exercises, idioms, and proverbs. Advanced learners can challenge themselves with quotes. Interestingly, the Russian translations of proverbs and quotes sometimes deviate from literal meanings—reflecting cultural adaptations—that create an engaging guessing game.

In the Listening Comprehension section, users can also utilize voice input (accessible via the microphone key on your keyboard) to enter answers effortlessly.

A small piece of advice: always vocalize contextual phrases aloud! Speaking in a foreign language boosts material retention significantly. It’s often surprising how these phrases resurface when needed!
