ABOUT THE STÄDEL MUSEUM

As one of Germany’s oldest museum foundations, established in 1815 by banker Johann Friedrich Städel, the Städel Museum encapsulates 700 years of European art within its walls. The museum houses an impressive array of over 3,100 paintings, 660 sculptures, 4,600 photographs, and more than 100,000 drawings and prints. Its collection provides a near-complete overview of European art history from the early fourteenth century to contemporary works, with particular emphasis on the Renaissance, Baroque, and early modern periods.
