The 《Chinese New Translation》 is a translation of the Bible into Chinese, completed by dozens of Chinese biblical scholars. This version was retranslated from the original texts, with the New Testament finalized in 1976 and the Old Testament in 1992.

The translation process involved meticulous work by teams focusing on original texts, theology, and Chinese language considerations, culminating in review by senior scholars. A cross-century edition was released in 2001, featuring introductions and summaries of each biblical book from scholars and pastors worldwide. Subsequent revision efforts led to the publication of the four Gospels in November 2011, followed by Romans in September 2012, Revelation in March 2013, with plans for Old Testament completion over the next three years. During this period, the translation was upgraded to what is now known as the 《Global New Translation》.

BACKGROUND

In 1970, inspired by the completion of the New American Standard Bible by the American Lockman Foundation, there was an initiative to fund a retranslation of the Bible for Chinese churches. In September 1971, Kenneth McVety from the foundation engaged representatives from Chinese churches across Asia. By January 1972, over twenty Chinese church leaders from Southeast Asia convened in Hong Kong to discuss near-term plans for retranslation from the original texts. A subsequent conference held at Fudan Hotel in Hong Kong between January 27 and 29 established an executive committee comprising members such as Teng Jinhui (Chairman), Bao Huiyuan, Dai Shaozeng, Chen Zhongdao, Tang Youzhi, Sang Anzhu, Xie Youwang, Wu Yong, and Shao Qingzhang. The committee also included Secretary-General Rong Baoluo and representative Kenneth McVety from the Lockman Foundation. Participants included pastors and scholars like Lin Daoliang, Xu Songshi, Xue Kongqi, Zhang Xiuxi, Zhao Tianen, Hu Wenxian, and Yang Muguo among others.
