"Politika" is the oldest and most influential daily newspaper in this part of Europe. It first appeared on the streets of Belgrade on January 25 (according to the old calendar) in 1904, with a circulation of 2,450 copies, printed on four pages and priced at five para.

The founder and editor-in-chief, Vladislav Ribnikar, when submitting the application to the authorities, stated that the newspaper would focus on politics and maintain independence.

"Politika" is a newspaper with a long and rich tradition, regarded as one of the national institutions in Serbia due to its prestige and influence. The readership of "Politika" mainly consists of middle-class and highly educated citizens.

Throughout its long history, "Politika" has collaborated with numerous significant cultural and scientific figures. Notable contributors to "Politika" have included Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić, Serbian writers and poets such as Miloš Crnjanski, Branko Ćopić, Jovan Dučić, Branislav Nušić, Desanka Maksimović, Isidora Sekulić, Veljko Petrović, among many others. Sir Winston Churchill, Thomas Mann, Eduard Erić, and other prominent figures have also written for "Politika."

Today, "Politika" fits into the category of daily political newspapers that adhere to high journalistic standards, representing a decent Serbian publication that promotes a culture of dialogue and freedom of expression. The newspaper includes several specialized regular supplements, with the Cultural Supplement being one of the longest-standing.

"Politika" made its debut on the internet in September 1997. Initially starting as a single page with a few articles, over the past twenty years, the website has undergone several upgrades and modernizations.
