INPN Espèces 4.10.1

The mobile application INPN species allows you to discover the diversity of species around you from your mobile device and share your observations with experts. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a passionate individual, a student, you can participate in the biodiversity inventory of your municipality, whether you are in mainland France or overseas territories!

• To share your observation, simply follow these steps on your phone:
  1. Take one to three photos of the species you want to identify (wild species, clear photo, visible determining criteria, etc.) or select photos from your gallery;
  2. Provide experts with the date and location of the observation using the "geolocate" function or manually entering the name of your municipality;
  3. Specify the basic group of the species (mammal, insect, plant, etc.).

If you wish to delve deeper into identification, you can try to indicate the taxonomic group (butterflies, salamanders, flowering plants, etc.). Species identification assistance is also available with an illustrated list of species that may match your description.

You will be informed of the progress regarding the validation of your observations and help experts complete species distribution maps. Become a biodiversity observer in your community and contribute to knowledge!

Teachers can also inventory biodiversity with their students by creating class accounts (from primary to high school) and selecting student observations before transmission to experts. Pedagogical activities available on the Determin'Obs website accompany classes according to their levels and school programs.

Furthermore, quests are offered to answer scientific questions regarding a specific group or species. The data collected will help experts better understand the ecology, distribution, or life cycle of targeted species.

• According to seasons, new quests will be regularly proposed. Some will run over several months while others will be offered for shorter periods. Likewise, some quests will focus on mainland France while others on overseas territories; some will be national and others more local.
