The Bible is commonly referred to as the ultimate scripture of Christianity and Judaism. Its composition differs between Christianity and Judaism. The word "Bible" in English is derived from the ancient Greek "to biblion" meaning "the book," which originated in the region of Biblos, an ancient hub of papyrus trade. In the East, it is believed that the term "Bible" originated from attaching the title "Gyeong" (meaning scripture) to books that have been historically proven to be true. The term "Scripture" is also frequently used. Some argue that conservative Christians who emphasize the scriptural authority of the Bible use the term "Scripture," while progressive Christians who emphasize a critical approach towards it use the term "Bible."

The Jewish Bible, known as the Tanakh, is considered to be the original source of the Bible. It is a collection of scriptures that were recorded over centuries as individual volumes in Babylon, Palestine, Egypt, and other regions. Over time, these volumes were compiled into a single book. According to Jewish tradition, it is composed of a total of 24 books. Although there are various traditions regarding its formation, it is believed that the current classification was established around 90 AD during the Council of Jamnia. While similar to the Old Testament of Christianity, there are some books that are either missing or added, and the order of arrangement is identical.
