Regarding satellite technology, the Fengyun-2D meteorological satellite, developed by China, represents its first generation of geostationary weather satellites. Launched on December 8, 2006, via a Long March 3B rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, it is positioned over the equator at approximately 86.5 degrees east longitude, about 35,800 kilometers above sea level. This satellite orbits in sync with Earth's rotation, remaining stationary relative to the ground (hence geostationary), enabling continuous observation of cloud formations over the same region every hour through visible light, infrared, and water vapor imagery. The resulting animations facilitate comprehensive tracking of cloud movement and development.

The MTSAT satellite system, operated by Japan, supports differential global positioning system (DGPS) signals to enhance navigation accuracy and reliability. Positioned over the equator at approximately 145 degrees east longitude at an altitude similar to Fengyun-2D, it also maintains geostationary orbit. This allows for constant monitoring and imaging of weather patterns across Japan and surrounding regions, contributing valuable data for meteorological analysis.
