Wang Shouren (1472-1529), of Han ethnicity, also known as Wang Yangming, was a renowned Ming dynasty thinker, educator, writer, calligrapher, philosopher, and military strategist. He held positions such as Nanjing Minister of War and Left Chief Censor of the Nanjing Court, receiving noble titles for his military achievements. Wang Shouren was the culmination of Lu-Wang Confucianism, proficient not only in Confucianism but also Buddhism and Taoism, showcasing exceptional versatility rarely seen in Chinese history.
Wang Yangming is not only a representative figure of Song-Ming Confucianism but also greatly distinguished in his lifetime. Referred to as the "True Three Non-Decay" (Superior individuals establish virtues; lesser individuals establish accomplishments; still lesser individuals establish words. Though long gone, they never perish. This is what is known as the Three Non-Decays. -Zuozhuan), his academic ideas profoundly influenced China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Southeast Asian countries, and even globally. Therefore, Wang Yangming (the culmination of Confucianism) is mentioned alongside Confucius (founder of Confucianism), Mencius (Confucianism's culmination), and Zhu Xi (culmination of Neo-Confucianism) as part of the group known as Kong-Meng-Zhu-Wang.
