The story centers around William Legrand, who in 1827, seeks refuge on Sullivan Island, South Carolina, after losing his family fortune. During his explorations, William discovers a rare golden bug and records it on a piece of paper. Later, as he recounts his adventure to his friend Edgar by the fireplace, symbols mysteriously appear on the paper—visible only when heated. William deduces that this might be a coded message from Captain Kidd related to hidden treasure.

Players are invited to assist William in deciphering the cryptic instructions, exploring various locations on Sullivan Island—from William’s dilapidated shed and Devil’s Rock to the island’s forests and beaches—and ultimately uncovering the legendary treasure chest.
