"Comprehensive Mirror in Aid of Governance," commonly known as the "Comprehensive Mirror," is a lengthy chronological history book edited by Sima Guang during the Northern Song Dynasty. It consists of 294 volumes, three million characters, and took 19 years to complete. The historical records start from the 23rd year of King Weilie of the Zhou Dynasty (403 BC) and continue up until the sixth year of Xian De, Emperor Shizong of Later Zhou (959 AD). Spanning 16 dynasties, it chronicles a total of 1362 years, covering various ruling bodies such as Qin, Han, Jin, Sui, Tang unified dynasties, the Seven Warring States, Three Kingdoms of Wei, Shu, Wu, Sixteen Kingdoms of Five Barbarians, Northern and Southern Dynasties, and Ten Kingdoms during the Five Dynasties era. It provides a detailed yearly record of Chinese history and holds significant importance in Chinese historical literature.
