Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and those guided by his teachings until the Day of Judgment. Now moving on:
The importance of Zakat in Islam is undeniable, as it is the third pillar of Islam and its significance is emphasized alongside prayer in many verses of the Quran, reflecting its importance and esteemed status. By referring to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the true essence of Zakat becomes clear.
Similarly, fasting holds great significance as the fourth pillar of Islam. Allah has mandated it as a means for worshipers to draw closer to Him by abstaining from worldly desires such as food, drink, and fulfilling carnal needs. This showcases their complete submission and obedience to their Creator in hopes of attaining forgiveness for sins and reaching higher spiritual ranks.
Due to the paramount importance of these two pillars, it is crucial to explain their rulings in a manner that aligns with all segments of society. This can be achieved through a question-and-answer format derived from contemporary scholars' fatwas that cover essential topics needed by every Muslim. It's essential to compile and integrate scattered fatwas into applications for mobile phones due to the widespread use of this technology across the globe. Mobile phones have become a ubiquitous tool for individuals of all backgrounds and ages—male and female, literate and illiterate.
Mobile users worldwide surpass 70% of the global population. Mobile phones now surpass television, internet, and radio in content consumption due to their ease of use, flexibility in content consumption, and privacy safeguards.
Mobile phones have also entered various sectors such as healthcare, education, e-commerce, and entertainment. The number of mobile applications has exceeded 350,000 on Apple's App Store alone and 150,000 on Android's platform. Downloads on Apple's store have exceeded 10 billion.
Compiling fatwas related to fasting and Zakat into mobile applications is essential to widely disseminate knowledge at no cost. Through this method, spreading wisdom becomes seamless and accessible.
The scholarly works that contributed to this compilation include texts by contemporary scholars:
- Collection of Fatwas by Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him)
- Collection of Fatwas by Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him)
- Fatwas by Sheikh Ibn Baz from Noor 'ala al-Darb
- Fatwas by Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen from Noor 'ala al-Darb
- Fatwas by Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen from Laqaa al-Baab al-Maftooh
- Fatwas by the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta' (First and Second Set)
- Fatwas by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Jibrin (may Allah have mercy on him)
- Select Fatawa from Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan
In compiling this work:
- I provided relevant headings corresponding to each matter without adhering strictly to the original sources.
- I organized fatwas into separate categories for easy reference.
- I occasionally included the same question in multiple categories when relevant.
- I attributed each fatwa to its source with proper citation details such as volume number and page wherever possible.
- I preserved questions and answers in their original form, seldom condensing them.
- I extracted Quranic verses indicated by parentheses.
- I highlighted Hadiths enclosed in parentheses.
The combined fatwas in this application amount to over two thousand inquiries with repetitions based on relevance.
I pray that Allah Almighty makes this work sincerely for His noble countenance and that we benefit from it on a day where neither wealth nor offspring will avail us. May He forgive us, our parents, all Muslims, and grant success to those who contributed to producing and disseminating this application.
Our final prayer is that all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
