Updates From Users For Users

October 29, 2007 - One of the most exciting underlying concepts of UpdateStar is how it's multitude of users are directly involved in taking care of product information.

Users can maintain and tend to the UpdateStar program database in the interest of other users. Every user who discovers a previously unknown update is in turn helping others keep their software bang up to date too. This Social Computing aspect of maintaining the UpdateStar database enables a whole community of users to support each other and keep each other's software environments up to date.

The idea of involving our users has been exceptionally well received, as borne out by the reaction to it since release of the first Beta version of UpdateStar around a month ago.

The UpdateStar Team currently receives 250 corrections, new entries and new Update information items daily, all of which go straight into the database. There are currently around 84,000 products in the database, and the rate of identification and quality of information supplied is improving each day.

If you discover an Update or a correction to a product you have installed, then you too can support the UpdateStar project. Simply click on "Send Update". A web form will appear and you inform us by correcting the information shown. When the database has been updated, the whole community of users will benefit from your support and contribution.
